Editorial Standards

These are the rules our guides follow. They exist so you can tell the difference between what we know, what a manufacturer claims and what we do not know.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • Factual claims come from manufacturer information, extension services, medical sources or published research, and each article lists its sources.
  • When sources disagree or are thin, we say so.
  • We never invent ratings, prices, weights, certifications, review counts, materials or test results. If a manufacturer does not publish a fact, we write “Not specified by manufacturer” or leave it out.

Honest about testing

We do not claim to have physically tested a product unless we have, and we say so plainly if we have. Our guides are research-based, and we describe them that way. We do not use invented field tests, personal anecdotes we did not live, or made-up reviewers.

Facts, claims and opinions

We separate what the evidence shows, what a manufacturer claims, and our own judgment, and we label them. Where a manufacturer makes a protection claim, we report it as a claim.

Responsible safety messaging

  • We do not guarantee protection, and we do not suggest that any product can.
  • We avoid fear-based marketing and sensational imagery.
  • We link first-aid advice to medical sources, and we always say to call emergency services.

Affiliate links and independence

As an Amazon Associate, SnakeBootGuide.com may earn from qualifying purchases. We do not accept payment for rankings or reviews, and commissions do not change what we write. We do not show Amazon prices, ratings or availability, because they change and we cannot verify them in real time. See our affiliate disclosure.

Images

We use photographs we are licensed to use, credited to their photographers, and we do not copy images from competitors, manufacturers or Amazon listings. Photos show general outdoor scenes, not specific products, unless we say otherwise.

Updates and corrections

Every guide shows a “last updated” date. Product guides that quote specifications show when the information was last checked. If you find an error, tell us; we will correct it and note material changes.
